Richard Schanen

   Richard Schanen of Plano, Texas, died Wednesday, March 13, at his home after a battle with cancer.
   Mr. Schanen was born in New York City in 1946.
   He received a bachelor of arts degree from Oglethorpe University and a law degree from Seton Hall University. He joined Western Electric in their Labor Relations Department and then moved to the AT&T Law Department. He then moved to Washington, D.C. and joined Bellcore in their Government Relations/Strategic Planning Department. After several years, he joined SBC in St. Louis as Executive Director of Government Planning. Two moves followed with SBC. The first to San Antonio and finally to Dallas, where he retired after 31 years of service.
   He was interested in the arts, literature, theater, sports, the outdoors and animals. Most of all, however, he was a loving and caring husband and parent whose complete focus was always on his family. His wonderful spirit and love of life and family will be missed and remembered by all.
   He is survived by his loving wife, Kerri; a daughter, Leah; a son, Mark; his parents, Harriet and Nate "Pop" Schanen of Monroe; his sister, Norlyn Kessler and brother Mitch Schanen, both of New Brunswick and his in-laws, Jack and Peggy Murphy.
   Graveside services were held Sunday, March 17, at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
