August Cafiero

   August R. "Gus" Cafiero, 93, died Wednesday, March 20, at The Medical Center at Princeton.
   Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Wantagh, Long Island, N.Y. for over 27 years before moving to Rossmoor in 1973.
   He was a rescue technician and firefighter with Rescue 2 in Brooklyn of the New York City Fire Department before retiring in 1957. He was very proud of the fact that at the time of his death, he had been recognized by the fire department as its oldest living retiree. He later maintained an architectural practice in Bronxville, N.Y. and Cranbury during a 25-year period, having studied the practice with his father’s firm in Brooklyn.
   He was also a former Monroe Township fire commissioner. He was a life member of the Institute of Stone Planners (an architectural organization). He was a communicant of Nativity of Our Lord R.C. Church in Monroe. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Blue Tee Group at Rossmoor Golf Club.
   His granddaughter, Kathy Cafiero, died in 1984.
   Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth A. (Iuliano) Cafiero; a daughter, Janice McCullough of Albany, N.Y.; a son, William G. and his wife, Joann, of Richardson, Texas; two grandsons, Chris and Matt Cafiero and three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Madeline and Caitlin Cafiero.
   Funeral services were held Monday, March 25, at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home in Monroe, followed by a funeral liturgy at Nativity of Our Lord R.C. Church in Monroe. Entombment followed at Holy Cross Mausoleum in South Brunswick.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the Spina Bifida Association of Dallas, Texas.
