Time for board to start taping

The Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education wants $127 million to run the district’s six schools in 2002-03.

The district offers students state-of-the-art technology, an advanced placement honors curriculum and a wide range of extracurricular activities.

In short, taxpayers have provided the money that has turned the six high schools into outstanding educational institutions.

Despite the hundreds of millions of dollars that have been spent to provide the best for the district’s children, the board has not yet seen fit to start tape-recording its public meetings.

This can lead to problems when people seek an accurate record of what transpired.

May we suggest that as it prepares to spend $127 million in the coming school year, the board come up with the minimal amount it would take to buy a tape-recording system so that in the future, the public, the board members and the district’s administrators can know who said what at meetings.

It’s time for the FRHSD to join just about every other public body and tape its meetings so that an accurate record exists of what took place.
