Two South Brunswick teen-agers were injured when their 1999 BMW hit a utility pole on Deans-Rhode Hall Road Thursday night.
Maria Hage-Boutros, 18, and her sister, Jamilli Hage-Boutros, 19, hit the pole at 11:18 p.m. after they swerved to avoid hitting a dark-colored vehicle that witnesses described as a black Nissan 300ZX with a T-top roof, police said. Witnesses told police the Nissan left the Washington Cemetery on Deans-Rhode Hall Road and pulled in front of the BMW.
The BMW hit a utility pole and rolled over several times, throwing its driver, Maria Hage-Boutros, from the car.
Both victims were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
After the crash, the Nissan left the scene. It was seen turning north on Fresh Ponds Road off Deans-Rhode Hall Road. The car had its lights off as it left the area, police said.
The sisters, whose father Pierre Hage-Boutros owns Pierre’s Restaurant and Deli on Georges Road, were at Robert Wood Johnson as of Friday where Maria was listed in critical condition and Jamilli was listed as fair.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Patrol Officer Lazlo Nyitrai of the South Brunswick Traffic Safety Bureau at (732) 329-4000, ext. 430.
