Ryan Sigle, 21, of Deans Rhode Hall Road, Monmouth Junction, was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly hitting a man with his car Sunday after having seen the man leave a bar with his ex-girlfriend, police said.
Police said Mr. Sigle tried to hit a 28-year-old man from South Brunswick with his Mazda 626 at 1:40 a.m. Sunday at a Major Road residence after following the man and Mr. Sigle’s ex-girlfriend from the North Brunswick Pub on Route 1.
Mr. Sigle drove into the man’s leg and then ran over some wooden logs before driving away from the scene toward a carwash located on Route 1, police said. The victim refused medical attention, police said.
Police arrested Mr. Sigle at his home after interviewing several witnesses. Mr. Sigle was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick where he is being held on $25,000 bail.
Aggravated assault with a motor vehicle is a fourth-degree crime that carries a sentence of up to 18 months in jail.
In connection with the incident, police charged Rene Tartsany, 20, of Deans Rhode Hall Road with driving while intoxicated. Police said Mr. Tartsany had driven to the carwash to meet Mr. Sigle after Mr. Sigle called him.
Mr. Tartsany, driving a Jeep Cherokee, was slurring his speech and had watery, bloodshot eyes, police said. Mr. Tartsany failed field subsequent field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was later released to the custody of his sister.
