WOODBRIDGE Fred L. Herzog, 77, died March 29 at Rahway Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, Mass., he lived in Newark 25 years before moving to Woodbridge 47 years ago.
He worked for Middlesex Water Co. 10 years before retiring in 1988. He was formerly an assistant store director for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Sayerville and New Brunswick. He had worked for ABC Ribbon and Carbon and Peerless Manufacturing in Newark.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a gunnermate on the SS ESSO/Dover. He was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 857 of Woodbridge, Woodbridge AARP and Woodbridge Senior Citizens Club.
Husband of the late Katherine "Kay"’ Herzog, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald F. and Kathleen of East Windsor and Robert T. and Carolyn of Stewartsville; five grandchildren, Christian, Timothy, Lindsay, Amy and Jeremy; and friends.
Funeral was Thursday from Leon J. Gerity Funeral Home, Woodbridge.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Woodbridge.
Burial was in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
