Ida M. Snyder
Retired academic researcher
   Ida Mae Snyder of Princeton died Saturday. She was 94.
   Born in Baltimore, she was a longtime Princeton resident.
   A graduate of Columbia University, she was a retired academic researcher.
   Wife of the late Dr. Lewis L. Snyder, professor emeritus of history at City University of New York, she is survived by godchildren Jessica C. Wilson of Kingston and Victoria (Wilson) and Stephen Townley of Brunswick, Maine; and close friend Dr. Andrew W. Conrad of Montgomery.
   The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Ave., Princeton, with the Rev. Paul Johnson of the Unitarian Universalists Congregation of Princeton officiating.
   Burial will follow in Princeton Cemetery.
   Calling hours will be noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary E. Smith
Former Princeton resident
   DARIEN, Conn. — Mary Ellen Smith died March 29 of congestive heart failure. She was 79.
   Raised and educated in Rochester, N.Y., she and her husband moved to Princeton, where they raised their three sons, after World War II. She was a resident of Darien for the past 25 years.
   She graduated from the University of Rochester in 1944 with a degree in economics.
   In Princeton she was a member of the Present Day Club and Springdale Golf Club and was a vol-unteer at The Medical Center at Princeton. She also was active in her church and the Princeton PTA.
   After moving to Darien in 1977, she worked as a real estate agent. She was a member of the Wee Burn Country Club and a past member of the Wing Foot Golf Club and Sky Club in New York City.
   Daughter of the late Edward and Edna Kirchmaier, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Elwin E. Smith; sons Peter Smith of West Windsor, Michael Smith of Madison, Conn., and Timothy Smith of Rowayton, Conn.; and grandchildren Travis, Dwight and Corey Smith of Madison, Conn., and James and Abigail Smith of Rowayton, Conn.
   A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at The United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Ave., Rowayton.
   In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Brigham & Women’s Hospital Renal Transplant Unit, Boston, Mass.
   Arrangements are by Edward Lawrence Funeral Home Inc., Darien.
Else E. Embury
Retired bookkeeper
   WEST WINDSOR — Else Esdar Embury died Friday at home. She was 81.
   Born in Hamburg, Germany, she immigrated to Idalia, Colo., and later became a naturalized U.S. citizen. She lived in Illinois, Connecticut and New Jersey. She was a resident of the Princeton area since 1986.
   She retired as a bookkeeper from Maywood Auto Body.
   She enjoyed swimming, music and her family.
   Wife of the late Carl R. Embury, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law Dorothy E. and Robert A. Staats Jr. of West Windsor, with whom she resided; sisters Selma Huart of Stoughton, Wis., and Alma Morgan of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.
   A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday at Griggstown Reformed Church, 1261 Canal Road, Griggstown.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Princeton Hospice, 208 Bunn Drive, Princeton, NJ 08540 or the animal shelter SAVE, 900 Herrontown Road, Princeton, NJ 08540.

Local food columnist
   KUMMING, China — Michael John Dorn died March 7 from complications following surgery at the Red Cross Hospital. He was 61.
   Born in Watertown, S.D., he was a Princeton resident most of his life.
   Mr. Dorn was a well-traveled cookbook author, former food columnist for The Princeton Packet and instructor in creative writing.
   Son of the late Rev. W.F. Dorn, he was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Princeton University Professor James Smith.
   He is survived by his mother, Margaret Hjelle Dorn; sisters Deborah D. Hoenecke of Kewaskum, Wis., and Mary Dorn Lippert of Oshkosh, Wis.; and brothers Wilbur Dorn Jr. of Ramsey, Minn., and Peter Dorn of Portland, Ore.
   Memorial service and burial will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in Hendricks, Minn.

Lawrence B. Arecco
Former Montgomery resident
   PHOENIX, Ariz. — Lawrence Badger Arecco died March 16 at home of lung cancer. He was 51.
   He grew up in Montgomery Township and attended Montgomery schools. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 46 in Blawenburg.
   He served with the Marines in Vietnam.
   Mr. Arecco was in the landscaping business in Phoenix.
   Predeceased by his father, he is survived by his wife, Susan; mother LaVonne Badger Arecco of Quakertown, Pa.; daughter Lea Joyce Arecco of Princeton; brothers and sister-in-law Jack Peter and Cindy Arecco of Flemington and Michael Robert Arecco of Quakertown, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law Jeanne Marie and James Halifko of Little Egg Harbor; grandson Ian Matthew Alloway; and nieces, nephews and friends.
Edwin A. Nation
Daughter lives in West Windsor
   CRANBURY — Edwin Alfred Nation died Sunday. He was 84.
   Born in Taunton, Somerset, England, he was raised in Quebec City, Quebec, where he was a graduate of Commissioner High School.
   A resident of Ogunquit, Maine, for the past 21 years, he previously resided in Hartsdale, N.Y., for 19 years.
   A personnel manager with Abitibi Price in both Quebec City and Hartsdale, he retired in 1981 after 43 years.
   Mr. Nation was a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge and a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, both located in Quebec City. He was also a member of St. George’s Church in York Harbor, Maine, where he served as senior warden.
   Father of the late Margaret C. Nation, he is survived by his wife, E. Jean Nation; son James E. Nation of Newburyport, Mass.; daughter Beverley N. Lynk of West Windsor; brother Ernest W. Nation of Pickering, Ontario, Canada; and grandchildren Katherine M. and Allison J. Lynk, and Reed D. and James V. Nation.
   The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton. A memorial service will be held in May at St. George’s Church in York Harbor, Maine.
