HIGHTSTOWN It appears the race for mayor in the borough will be decided in June.
Mike Vanderbeck, president of the Borough Council, and Amy Aughenbaugh, the sitting mayor, each submitted petitions to seek the Democratic nomination for the mayoral race before Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline. No Republicans filed a petition.
The primary election will be held June 4.
In the race for Borough Council, Susan Holtzclaw and incumbent Nancy Walker-Laudenberger will run unopposed for the Republican spots on the Nov. 5 general election ballot. Democrats Joan Woomer and Eva Teller will also face no competition in seeking their party’s slots.
Two three-year terms on the council are up for grabs this year. Those seats are currently held by Ms. Walker-Laudenberger and Mr. Vanderbeck.
