William Ferencz Jr.

   MANVILLE — William Ferencz died Friday, April 12, in Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. He was 77.
   Born in Monesson, Pa., he had been a Manville resident since 1944.
   Mr. Ferencz worked for Johns-Manville of Manville for 45 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Johns-Manville Quarter Century Club. Upon retirement, he went to work for the Somerset County Roads Department , where he was employed for five years.
   Her was active in Manville politics. He served nine years as councilman during the 1960’s.
   He as a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II
   He was a member of the Manville VFW, Thomas J. Kavanaugh, Post 2290, a member of the Greek Catholic Union Lodge, 254 of Pittsburgh. He was also an active member of the Manville Senior Citizens Club and an exempt member of Manville Company No. 1.
   He was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hillsborough, the church’s Holy Name Society, Choir, St. Mary’s traveling bowling league and the church Social Club.
   Surviving are his wife, Julia Ferencz; a son, William John of Nesquehoning, Pa.; one daughter, Julianne Emerick of Bethlehem, Pa.; a brother, John of Belle Vernon, Pa.; a sister,Veronica Melnick of Cleveland; and three grandchildren.
   A funeral service was held April 16 at the Ketusky Funeral Home, Manville, followed by a Liturgy at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hillsborough. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough.
