The recount of the voting results for the Princeton Borough seat on the Princeton Regional Board of Education could be held Thursday or Friday, the chairman of the Mercer County Board of Elections said Monday.
It’s all a matter of when at least three of the four members of the election board — all of whom have day jobs — can fit the recount into their schedules, Dominic Magnolo, the election board chairman, said.
The school board asked for the recount when the incumbent, the Rev. Frank Strasburger, and challenger Michael Mostoller each received 254 votes.
The board’s lawyer and the state Attorney General’s Office determined that the recount could be referred directly to the election board, Mr. Magnolo said.
He said it will take a matter of minutes to check the six voting machines and 13 absentee ballots.
"It should be pretty quick," Mr. Magnolo said.
If the recount doesn’t break the tie, the matter will be decided at a special election May 14. If there is another tie, Mercer County Superintendent of Schools Thomas Rubino will appoint someone to fill the seat.
As of tonight’s board reorganization meeting, the seat will be vacant.
