Week after week I have read many letters about the "splitting" of the Freehold Regional High School District, many of them from concerned parents who care about the best for their precious children. Well, being one of those precious children, I feel like speaking out on what I think is best for this district.
The FRHSD is an incredible organization of education. I’m not saying it’s perfect, as nothing is, but it has definitely pushed my educational capacity to its maximum. I am enrolled in the International Studies program, one of the many specialized learning centers offered by the district. This program has not only made me a better student, but it has made me culturally aware of the world I am about to go into and I do not think I could have received such an education anywhere else.
The learning center has also opened many doors for me friend-wise, as I have met people from all over the district whom I would not have met if it weren’t for the organization under the FRHSD.
Not only are the learning centers a place for study, but they can be used as a reward for hardworking students who want to start fresh in a new school without having to pay fees to private institutions. It really is a great opportunity to further studies and create new relationships within the district.
But there are even more reasons why the FRHSD must be preserved. If a student needs to take an extra class because the college he/she plans to attend requires the course on the student’s transcript and their home school does not have the facilities to offer it, the student has the opportunity to take the class in a neighboring school.
This allows the student to take the maximum amount of classes they care to take in their high school career. The FRHSD also has established many organizations, such as the Freehold Regional Student Council, which allows students in the district to come together and exchange ideas on how to better their home school.
If towns were to leave the district, they would be putting themselves at a disadvantage and only be hurting the students.
If there is one thing the FRHSD has taught me, it is that traditions are very important in life; by tampering with the district’s membership these wonderfully established traditions would be lost and future students will never be able to be part of this incredible system.
