BLANCHE F. WERMANN, 70, of Hazlet, died April 27 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Union City prior to moving to Hazlet 42 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. She was a member of the Keyport Seniors club. She is survived by her husband, Louis Wermann of Hazlet; her son, Louis Wermann Jr. of Brick; four daughters, Margaretann DiGiambattisti of Union Beach, Karen Pinckney of Keyport, Janine Wermann-Salinas of Hazlet, and Kathleen Walling of Keyport; four sisters, Helen Provitera of Bloomfield, Ida Meyer and Dorothy Englese, both of North Bergen, and Ella Kolodziej of Jackson; her brother, Robert Chinery of Jersey City; and six grandchildren. Interment was at Holmdel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1942.

FILOMENA GUGLIELMINI, 95, of Oxford, died April 12 at the Lopatcong Care Center, Phillipsburg. Born in New York City, she had lived in Staten Island, N.Y., and Howell before moving to Oxford. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, who died in 1970; a son, Salvatore, in 2001; and three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by two sons, Michael of Staten Island and Nunzio of Howell; four daughters, Theresa Marino of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lucy Smith of Wauseon, Ohio, Rita Clenney of Security, Colo., and Phyllis Broderick of Oxford; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township.

EVA SMITH, 75, of Manalapan, died April 12 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, she had lived in Marlboro before moving to Manalapan 27 years ago. She was a waitress at Pines Manor, Edison, for 24 years before her retirement in 1986. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Englishtown. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Senior Citizens Center, both of Long Branch. She was predeceased by her husband, Cary, who died in 1984. She is survived by a son, Cary Jr., with whom she lived; three daughters, Maria Coulson of Jackson, Patricia Viola of Winthrop, Maine, and Florence Gill of Long Branch; two sisters, Rose Scannella of Florida and Helen Reid of New Jersey; and six grandchildren. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by interment at Forest Green Park Cemetery, Marlboro.

MARY E. CARSWELL, of Freehold, died April 19 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in West Freehold section of Freehold Township, she was a lifelong resident of the area. She was predeceased by her husband, John Scotty Carswell; a son, John D.; and a granddaughter, Tiffany. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David Scotty and Debbie of Jackson; a daughter, Mary Fame of Egg Harbor Township; five grandchildren; one niece; and her neighbors, Tom, Joan and Lisa Hampton. Graveside services were held at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.

DR. BERNARD SALKIN, 81, of Manches-ter, died April 19 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, N.Y. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Spring Valley, N.Y., for 38 years before moving to Manchester in 1995. Before retiring in 1995, he was a self-employed optometrist for 55 years. He was a 1942 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He was a member of the Spring Valley Kiwanis Club; a founder and adviser to the Spring Valley Key Club; and received a distinguished service award from the Spring Valley Lions Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Beigel, who died in 2001. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley (née Horn); two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen and Larry Goldstein of Howell, and Dr. Ruth A. Salkin of Montvale; and one grandson. Interment was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.

MICHAEL BEHAR, of Freehold, died April 23 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in New York City. Mr. Behar was self-employed as a beverage distributor. He was a member of Chabad of Freehold. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Renee (née Kobin); a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Shari of Manalapan; a son, Steven of Howell; a brother, Max of Queens; a sister, Katie Thaler of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Burial was at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.

OLIVE MARIE COSTELLO PIERCE, 75, of the Belford section of Middletown, died April 18 at Providence Hospital, Rhode Island. Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Wall, prior to moving to Belford three years ago. She was a registered nurse and supervisor at Medi Center, Lakewood, for 17 years, retiring five years ago. A graduate of Jersey City Medical College Nursing School, she was also a member of its Alumni Association. She is survived by her husband, Edward Pierce of Belford; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward and Lori Pierce of Kerensville, N.C., and Stephen Pierce of Brick; two daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth and Kevin Scott of Belford, and Maria Pierce De Ossie of Bristol, R.I.; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Entombment was at St. Gertrude’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge.

LOUIS N. RASPA, 77, of Howell, died April 13 at home. He was an automotive parts supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service in Newark for 31 years before retiring in 1985. He was an army veteran of World War II, serving in the 27th Evacuation Hospital. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 376, West Orange, and the Columbia Association, Newark. Born in Newark, he lived there until moving to Howell in 1982. Surviving are his brothers, the Rev. Victor Raspa and Anthony Raspa; and two sisters, Marie Durham and Anna Pinto. Services were held at St. Veronica’s Church, Howell. Interment was in Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield.

ANNA T. FOX, 88, of Jackson, died April 15 at home. Born in Jersey City, she lived there and in Toms River before moving to Jackson in 2001. She worked for the Triangle Cable Company, New Brunswick. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Toms River, and was also involved with the senior center in Tuckerton. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1960. Surviving are her son, Ronald A. of Jackson; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Aloysius Church, Jackson. Interment was in Holy Trinity Church Cemetery, Helmetta.
