Letter to the editor
To the editor:
As a community member of the board of directors of Better Beginnings child care center I would like to thank you for the wonderful editorial that appeared in April ("Worthy cause needs help from us all," April 5, 2002, Page 10A). While it is scary to think that the United Way may cut its funding to Better Beginnings and other worthwhile programs in Mercer County, it is reassuring to know that you recognize the value of the quality program that Better Beginnings provides to children and families in the Hightstown and East Windsor community. Better Beginnings relies heavily on the funding it receives from the United Way and other charitable organizations. Without this support, the 99 children would not receive the high quality preschool education, nurturing, mentoring and support that Better Beginnings provides.
2002 marks the 35th anniversary of Better Beginnings and its contributions to the lives of thousands of local children and their families. In recognition of this achievement, the board of directors has established a 35th Anniversary Fund. Thus far contributions total $1,600 from board members and Better Beginnings’ special friend Jackie Bodin. The money raised through this campaign will go to support the daily programs at Better Beginnings, including new supplies, more bilingual books, new play equipment for the expanded playground, as well as contributions to the much-needed endowment fund. Now it is time for those who believe in children and Better Beginnings to help out.
Your contribution to Better Beginnings could mark the number of years you have lived in town, the number of healthy, educated children or grandchildren you have, or perhaps honor or remember a special teacher or mentor in your life or the life of a child. Better Beginnings needs our help and every contribution counts in guaranteeing that children will receive excellent care and education.
Please consider making a gift in honor of Better Beginnings’ 35th anniversary. In doing so, you will be making an investment in the future of this community. Contributions can be mailed to Better Beginnings, 35th Anniversary Fund, P.O. Box 187, Hightstown, N.J. 08520.
