Russell W. Martin Jr. died Sunday, May 5, at home.
Born in Abington, Pa., he was a longtime Lawrence resident.
Mr. Martin retired from Educational Testing Service in 1999 as associate general counsel. He had been with ETS more than 33 years. Prior to that he held a clerkship with the chief judge of the Federal Second Circuit Court of Appeals and served as special assistant to the president of the New York Stock Exchange.
He graduated from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce of the University of Pennsylvania, ranking number two in a class of more than 400; and from New York University School of Law as a Rost-Tilden Scholar.
Mr. Martin was a member of the copyright committee of the Association of American Publishers, an elder in the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, a trustee of Dollars for Scholars of Lawrence, past president of the Lawrence Rotary Club, member of the Saturday Nighters Fellowship Group of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church and an avid tennis player.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Jonathan Cook; son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Maureen Martin; and grandson Christopher Russell Martin.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church, 2688 Main St., with the Rev. Dr. H. Dana Fearon III and the Rev. Joan Semenuk officiating.
