The Princeton Family YMCA’s summer programs kick off on Monday. Registration is now under way.
Over the summer, the YMCA offers full-day Discovery, Explorer, Adventure Teen and Sports camps, with drop-off as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick-up by 6 p.m. Discovery and Explorer Camp are held at Johnson Park School. Teen Camp meets at Johnson Park School and goes on a trip every day. Sports Camp is held at the YMCA on Paul Robeson Place.
The YMCA also offers six different one-week specialty camps: dinosaurs, computers, science, magic, drama and art.
Camps are available for children ages 5 to 15.
Good & Plenty Camp is a new addition to the YMCA’s summer preschool line-up of activities. The YMCA will offer the same physical and emotional environment in which children can explore and develop happily and safely, with additional age-appropriate field trips and activities, such as visits from a 4-H Fair, petting zoo and magician and trips to Sandy Hook, Jenkinson’s Aquarium and bowling.
New to the YMCA’s swimming program this summer are special one-day activities: YMCA Splash Days which teach basic rescue skills, June 17 and 20 from 10:30-11:30 a.m.; Family Swimming Day, Saturday, June 22 ,from 1-3 p.m.; Pool Games for active kids, June 19, from 7-8 p.m., and Starts & Turns Clinic for more advanced swimmers, June 19 from 8-9 p.m. Each of these programs has a nominal fee, $5 or $10.
As always, group classes for infants through teens are available as are private lessons in Princeton and West Windsor.
The YMCA’s dance program continues over the summer with the addition of a special two-week afternoon Dance Camp. Specially designed for children entering first through fourth grades, participants will study ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance.
For the first time, the YMCA is hosting Teen Programs over the summer.
The calendar includes a Video Game Tournament on Saturday, June 15, from 3-8 p.m. featuring Playstation 2: James Bond & Tony Hawk 3; a Battle of the Bands on Saturday, June 22 from 4-9 p.m, featuring an exciting showcase of area bands; Middle School Dances on Saturday, July 27 and Aug. 17 and Open Teen Night at the Y, Saturday, Aug. 3.
As always, you can experience a great workout with the YMCA’s health and fitness programs: personal training, a wide variety of fitness classes ranging from kickboxing to step and aerostep, and use of the Cybex training center and cardiovascular center.
