The Ocean County YMCA and the borough of Seaside are coordinating a Mid-Summer Ocean Swim on Aug. 17 beginning at the 12th Avenue beach in Seaside Heights.
Registration and check-in will take place from 7-7:45 a.m. at 12th and Ocean avenues. The 1.5-mile swim starts at 8 a.m. at 12th Avenue and ends at N Street.
Participants will swim 1.5 miles along the coastline of Seaside Park beach. There are no jetties or ropes in the way — swimmers may swim in shallow or deep water.
The swim starts on the beach — swimmers enter the water and swim around the buoy — they proceed north and conclude their swim by going around the finish buoy — exiting the ocean and running into the finish line chute. Wet suits are permitted. This swim is open to everyone.
A breakfast will be held at the ocean race finish. There is no charge for beach access during the race, but if racers and their families want to spend the day on the beach, daily beach badges will be available.
Awards will go to the first finishers, male and female. Awards will also go to the top three male and female finishers in the following age groups: 14-and-under; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-and-up; lifeguard division; and Master’s Swimming Division age groups 30-39; 40-49; 50-59 and 60-and-up. Masters must provide a copy of their current USMS registration card.
