Final registration for Monroe Township Fall Baseball will be held Aug. 17 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Monroe Township Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road, Monroe Township. The registration fee is $50. Fall jerseys and hats will be provided, however, baseball pants and socks are not included in the registration fee. There will be an eight- to 12-game fall schedule from Sept. 9 until Oct. 28. No games will be played Sept. 11th in observance of the first anniversary of the WTC attacks, in honor of the Monroe Township residents lost a year ago.
Monroe Township Fall Baseball is an instructional program that is designed to eliminate the "shock" associated with moving up to the next level of play. Players who will play up in the next division next spring will play in that division for the fall, providing exposure to the new rules, and better skilled players. Fall Baseball’s less-competitive format provides for more on-field instruction, and is therefore beneficial to each player who will receive more one-on-one attention, as well as additional game experience.
There are four divisions, farm league (for 6 year-olds moving up to the farm league next spring, and 7- and 8-year-olds who will play in the farm league next spring); minor league (for 8-year-olds moving up to the minor league next spring, and 9- and 10-year olds who will play in the minor league next spring); major league (for 10-year-olds moving up to the major league next spring, and 11- and 12-year olds who will play in the major league next spring); and pony league (for 12-year-olds moving up to the pony league next spring, and 13-, 14- and 15-year-olds who will play in the farm league next spring). There will not be any fall buddy baseball (T-ball) due to the use of the buddy ball complex by the Monroe Wolverines Football.
If you have any questions, or would like to manage, coach, or volunteer for the fall baseball season, contact the league via e-mail at [email protected]. If you would like more information, visit the Web site at: www.monroebaseball.com.

The Atlantic Coast Football League, the area’s largest recreational flag football and touch football association, has scheduled a charity tournament for Aug. 18 at Rockland Lake State Park in Upper Nyack, N.Y. The tournament is being held to benefit the stricken family member of an ACFL player. Samantha Conlon, the 17-month-old cousin of Richard Giannasca, who plays for the Yonkers Maulers, has recently received a $250,000 lifesaving liver transplant. Along with the net proceeds from the event, family and friends will be selling food and drinks to the players and spectators to help raise money to defray these and future post-operative costs.
The tournament will be eight-on-eight (two count) flag football. The cost is $325 for preregistrants and $375 for walk-ons. Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three games.
