PLUMSTED — The first graduating class of New Egypt High School will be among the total of 1,675 students starting the 2002-03 school year Sept. 4.
New Egypt Elementary School, North Main Street, will enroll 832 pupils in kindergarten through fifth grade. The New Egypt Middle School, Evergreen Road, will enroll 393 pupils in grades six through eight and New Egypt High School, also on Evergreen Road, will enroll 450 students in grades nine through 12.
This year marks the first year there will be freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes at the high school. It marks Plum-sted’s complete withdrawal from the Upper Freehold Regional School District, Allentown, after an association that lasted almost 80 years.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gerald Woehr told the Tri-Town News that with improvements being made at all three existing schools, as well as the construction of a new school for pre-K through second grade, "things will be tight in terms of space."
Woehr said the middle school will be the only building that is not overcrowded, therefore, some high school classes will be held in the middle school.
The superintendent said construction of the new elementary school on Evergreen Road is expected to begin this fall.
He said the district will maintain the same curriculum that has yielded good results on achievement tests in the past.
