Township man to debutat Metropolitan Opera

Township, will be making his Metropolitan Opera debut in William Bolcolm’s "A View from the Bridge" this December.
   Mr. Travis has been a regular visitor to the United States’ most prestigious opera companies since making his professional debut in Pittsburgh in 1985. His 2001/02 engagements included appearances with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in performances of "Billy Budd" and "La Boheme" and at the Theatre du Capitole for "The Marriage of Figaro" in Toulouse, France.
   Future seasons include performances in Genoa, Italy, Houston, and a return to Chicago where he has performed 20 roles since his debut there in 1994.
   After receiving his master of music degree at the College Conservatory of Music at Cincinnati University, Mr. Travis was chosen to be a member of the San Francisco Opera apprenticeship program — the Adler Fellowship. He has enjoyed a close relationship with that company as well, appearing in over 25 roles since 1988. He was last seen in Igor Stravinsky’s "The Rakes Progress" in 2000 as Father Trulove.
   Other companies with which he has appeared include the Houston Grand Opera, the Los Angeles Opera, Santa Fe Opera, the Washington Opera at Kennedy Center, Boston Lyric Opera, and Spoletto U.S.A. in Charleston, S.C.
   Engagements abroad have included Don Alfonso in Mozart’s "Cosi fan Tutti" at the Komische Oper in Berlin, "La Boheme" in China at the Shanghai Conservatory, and the title role in "Don Pasquale" for the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv.
