Country Fair promises fun for all

MONROE — Organizers of the township’s 14th annual Country Fair say this weekend’s event will be a good time for a good cause.

All proceeds from Sunday’s fair, sponsored annually by the nonprofit Mother’s Club and the Monroe Recreation Department, are donated to organizations including the township’s Fire Department, EMS and Rescue Team, children’s organizations and children’s baseball leagues, according to Marguerite DaFoe, chairwoman of the fair.

The Mother’s Club rents space to various craft and food vendors to benefit the Mother’s Club donation fund, which will also benefit from a 50/50 raffle.

The fair will also include an array of entertainment for both children and adults. DJ Wacky Wayne Jr. will spin records, a sidewalk band will entertain, and the township’s own Wolverine Flag Cheerleaders will perform demonstrations.

Children can enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, pumpkin painting and a moonwalk.

Traditional pageant-like contests such as Little Miss Monroe and Town Squire for children ages 3 to 5 will also be held.

Admission is free, for the Country Fair, which will take place Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Thompson Park on Perrineville Road in Monroe. Fireworks will start at dusk.
