Broadway’s Ben Vereen and New York’s Washington Mutual Bank recently launched a "Spotlight on Teachers" program with a high-kicking event in Shubert Alley.
The inspiration behind this special performance is Washington Mutual’s buyout of every available seat on Broadway for New York City area and New Jersey teachers to enjoy a Saturday matinee Nov. 16.
More than 28,000 tickets will be given to K-12 public, private and charter school teachers in the area through a nominating process at a community level.
Washington Mutual is looking for people to nominate K-12 teachers who make a difference in the classroom. A past or present student, a parent of a student or even a colleague can nominate a teacher.
Nominators must visit their local Washington Mutual financial center and fill out a form describing why their teacher is special.
If they can’t make it into a financial center, the form can be downloaded and printed by visiting the "Spotlight on Teachers" page at www.wamucommunities.com.
The nominator will need to include the teacher’s name and school, and then give the form to the teacher, who will fill out their contact information and drop off the form in the mailbox or at any Washington Mutual Financial Center in New York or New Jersey.
Nominations are due by Oct. 1.
More than 14,000 of the nominated K-12 teachers will be randomly selected to receive a pair of tickets to a Saturday matinee performance on Nov. 16.
