FREEHOLD — A borough resident was charged with driving while intoxicated following a one-car crash at the intersection of Murray and Oak streets on Friday.
According to Freehold Borough Police Capt. Michael DiAiso, officers responded to the location of the accident and determined that the driver had crashed his car head-on into a tree on Oak Street at 10:55 p.m. Oct. 4.
He said officers were advised that two people who had been riding in the car fled the scene, leaving Marc Gill, 25, a passenger in the front seat, trapped in the vehicle with his legs pinned under the dashboard.
One subject fled down Oak Street toward Robertsville Road and the other fled toward Ellis Street, DiAiso said.
DiAiso said that upon investigation by officers Mark Garahan and Keith Bailey, one subject, Lamont Shuler, was located on Oak Street. He said Shuler, of the borough, was charged with driving while intoxicated and 13 other motor vehicle violations, including leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
Gill was not charged with any violations. He was extricated from the crushed vehicle and transported to CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, by the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad where he was treated and released on Oct. 5.
