The new Kohl’s was expected to hold its ribbon-cutting ceremony today.
EAST BRUNSWICK — As part of the growing midwestern chain’s attempt to increase its presence in New Jersey, Kohl’s opened its doors at a new Route 18 location Sunday.
Kohl’s, based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., sells clothing for men and women of all ages, jewelry, accessories, shoes, housewares, bath, bedding, luggage and other items. The store also has a gift registry available.
The grand opening of the store was held this week, and included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with East Brunswick Mayor Bill Neary this morning. The first 300 customers received a free bath kit giveaway, said Bill Hall, Kohl’s district manager for northern New Jersey.
The store will have a special appearance Saturday by the Cat in the Hat, a character from the famous Dr. Seuss children’s book.
"We’re really excited about being part of the East Brunswick community," Hall said.
Currently, there are approximately 150 employees at the store, though it is still hiring more employees for the approaching holiday season, Hall said.
The Planning Board approved the application in March for the new store for the building that formerly housed Bradlees.
The 90,000-square-foot building now includes minor changes to the building’s structure, its exterior and the parking lot. Landscaping improvements were also made around the shopping center as part of the application.
Kohl’s store hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
