set Book, Author Dinner
The Alisa Chapter of Hadassah of Greenbriar/Whittingham, Monroe, and the Sisterhood of the East Brunswick Jewish Center will cosponsor a Book and Author Dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the East Brunswick Jewish Center, 511 Ryders Lane. Dinner will be kosher.
Author Myla Goldberg will discuss her book, The Bee Season, which won The New York Times Notable Book Award and the Hadassah National Magazine 2001 Harold U. Ribalow Award for best fiction on a Jewish theme.
The book tells the bittersweet story of Eliza Naumann, a seemingly unremarkable 9-year-old who does not expect to ever fit into her gifted family. As the fabric of one family unravels, universal truths about the often crippling pain of family lives are revealed in the coming-of-age story.
Couvert is $36 per person. Proceeds will benefit the new emergency trauma center at the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel, and projects supported by the East Brunswick Jewish Center Sisterhood.

Youngsters sought for
EBHS preschool program
East Brunswick High School (EBHS), Cranbury Road, is seeking children ages 3-5 to attend school as part of the high school’s Preschool Education Program. The annual program is a component of a full-year, hands-on course for high school seniors who will learn how to plan, teach and observe preschool children.
The first quarter of the course is devoted to the study of child development, guidance techniques and teaching methods needed to work with preschool youngsters. Beginning in December, the high school students will apply the skills and concepts they have learned to conduct and supervise a three-day-a-week nursery school. The course offers students an opportunity to practice skills in storytelling, music, creative movement, art and concept teaching.
Parents interested in registering preschoolers for the program must be East Brunswick residents who are able to transport children to and from the high school. Youngsters must be 3 years old by Jan. 1, but no older than 4 years, 8 months; they must be toilet trained and have up-to-date immunizations.
Two sessions will be offered three times each week from December-June: 8:15-10:15 a.m. and 11:35 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Certified teachers are present at all times during the sessions.
Applications may be picked up in the main office at EBHS. Application deadline is Nov. 19.
