LAWRENCE – James Taylor Adams, English master at The Lawrenceville School, died Wednesday at home.
Born in Oneida, N.Y., he lived in Lawrenceville 25 years.
Mr. Adams graduated from The Lawrenceville School in 1965. He received a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University in 1970 and a master’s degree in English from Boston College in 1973.
At Lawrenceville, he was assistant varsity basketball coach and a member of the Kinnan House team. He served the school in many capacities, including housemaster of Woodhull 10 years and assistant headmaster during the 1990s. He was the faculty liaison to the Alumni Association Executive Committee and was honored with the Class of 1965 James T. Adams Chair for Distinguished Teaching.
He was a former director of the school’s camp in Asbury Park and served on its board of trustees and as a fund-raiser. He also was a member of HomeFront in Trenton.
Son of the late Eugene T. Adams, he is survived by his wife, Joanne Terry Adams; his mother, Esther Fowler Adams of Lawrenceville; a daughter, Jennifer Adams of Boston; a son, Jared of Hoboken; a sister, Ann Garwig of Lawrenceville; and a brother, Stephen of Deland, Fla.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Nov. 16 at Edith Memorial Chapel at The Lawrenceville School.
Private burial will be in Lawrenceville Cemetery.
