recipient wins award
The Kidney and Urology Foundation of America has awarded an academic scholarship to a kidney transplant recipient from Manalapan. Lisa Taggart is among eight winners chosen from more than 40 applicants from throughout the United States. She was honored with a $500 Covelli Family Achievement Award for her outstanding academic success.
Having struggled with kidney disease since infancy, Taggart is the recipient of two kidney transplants. She is a patient of the St. Barnabas Medical Center Health Care System Renal Transplant Centers. Taggart is studying psychology and plans to work with children in the future. She has just begun her second year at Georgian Court College, Lakewood, where she maintains a 3.8 grade point average.
Illustrated calendar
features historical works
The Monmouth County Historical Association is offering its first illustrated calendar. This spiral-bound 2003 calendar features a glossy color photographs of artifacts or works of art from the association’s collections. Since 2003 marks the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth, more than half of the illustrations depict artifacts and art that relate to that historic event. Available for $15 plus $3.50 shipping and handling, the limited-edition calendar can be ordered by mail. Send payment to MCHA, 70 Court St., Freehold 07728. Victorian party will
benefit historic houses
The Monmouth County Historical Association (MCHA) will host its third annual Victorian Holiday Party from 7-10 p.m. Dec. 7 at the circa 1853 Taylor-Butler House, 127 Kings Highway, Middletown. The Taylor-Butler House is one of five historic houses owned and maintained by MCHA.
This year’s committee chairwoman is Cynthia Wilby of Rumson. Holiday decorations will be on display throughout the house and will be sold by silent auction. Auction items include designer tabletop theme trees, wreaths of various sizes, mantelpiece ensembles, and other decorative items for the home. A specialty boutique will offer a variety of items for immediate purchase. Again this year, unique tree skirts will be hand-crafted by Graceful Creations of Point Pleasant, and a lavish staircase garland is being designed by Susan Rosenthal of Rumson.
Local business support comes from Fox Asset Management, Little Silver, and PNC Advisors, Red Bank, who will each provide underwriting for the event. Add-On Pools of Middletown will again decorate a room in the Taylor-Butler House, and Julius Roehrs Co. Exotic Nurseries of Farmingdale will donate lush poinsettias. Several area garden clubs will also contribute decorations for the auction.
The black tie affair will be catered by Marcotte’s Catering of Spring Lake, which will provide hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Tickets begin at $150 per person for the sponsor level, a portion of which is tax-deductible. Patron tickets are $200 and include a listing at the event.
