scheduled for Nov. 10

The Spotswood Drug and Alcohol Alliance will sponsor its second annual Spotswood Family Day from noon to 5 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Spotswood High School, Summerhill Road.

The event will feature music, games, crafts, rides, drawings, door prizes and a NASCAR simulator car.

Admission is free of charge.

‘Christina Cooks’ host

to appear at E.B. Library

Christina Pirello, Emmy-winning host/chef of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) healthy foods show Christina Cooks, will be the featured speaker at the Friends of the East Brunswick Library’s fall program set for 8 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the library, Jean Walling Civic Center.

The program is free of charge and open to the public.

Pirello is seen on more than 135 public television stations nationwide and in 50 countries. She believes that food has the power to heal or harm. Diagnosed with terminal leukemia 16 years ago, she turned to natural, whole foods in a bid for a cure. Approximately 13 months later, she was given a clean bill of health by her doctors.

Now a nutrition expert, Pirello also teaches at Drexel University, Philadelphia, conducts lifestyle seminars, publishes her own magazine and is the author of several books including Cooking the Whole Foods Way and Cook Your Way to the Life You Want.

Monroe youngster wins

four art awards at fair

Allie Boehm of Monroe Township, a 10-year-old student in Bruce Fallender’s art classes at Adelphia Art Center in Howell, won four art awards at the Middlesex County Fair recently.

The young artist was awarded first prize in pastel, first prize in pencil, second prize in acrylic and third prize in watercolor.
