MILLTOWN — Two area residents were injured Tuesday morning when the vehicles they were driving collided in front of the post office on Washington Avenue.

The two drivers — Marnetta Colborni, 30, of Milltown, and William Peck Jr., 31, of Spotswood — were the only occupants in their vehicles, said Milltown police Sgt. Douglas Cole. The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. when Colborni, who was driving an eastbound 2000 Honda, attempted to make a left turn into the entrance of the post office. The car collided with Peck’s 1992 Jeep Wrangler, which was traveling westbound, Cole said. Upon collision, the Jeep Wrangler flipped onto its side, trapping Peck inside the vehicle. Milltown police, along with members of the borough’s rescue squad and fire department, responded and sawed open the roof of the Jeep in order to retrieve the driver.

Peck, who was conscious at the time, suffered injuries to his knee, according to police.

Colborni was bleeding from her forehead and suffered injuries to her hand, police said. Both were treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, following the accident.

Cole said police expected to issue Colborni a summons for careless driving in the accident. Police have reports of several "fender-bender" accidents in the same location. However, Cole said the cold weather Tuesday morning may have caused frost to accumulate on the windows of the vehicles, thus obstructing the drivers’ views and contributing to the cause of the accident.
