DORIS B. PERRINE, 89, of the Tennent section of Manalapan, died Nov. 5 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Freehold, she had been a resident of Tennent for the past 66 years. Mrs. Perrine was a 50-year member of Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent. She was predeceased by her husband, Duncan, in 1992. Surviving are a son, David D. of Shamong; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn E. and Ed Farrell of Brick, and Diane and Bob Cain of Millstone Township; and four grandchildren. The funeral service was held at Old Tennent Church, followed by interment in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent.
ANN THERESA McNAMARA, 79, of Manalapan, died Nov. 7 at Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she moved to Manalapan in 1967. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro, and a member of the church’s Altar Rosary Society. Mrs. McNamara is survived by her husband, Martin; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Karen of Hopatcong; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Jimmy Lewis of Howell, and Eileen and Dennis D’Andrea of Brick; five grandchildren and three nieces. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Gabriel’s Church, followed by entombment at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, Marlboro. DOROTHY PAWLYK HURLEY, 71, of the Parlin section of Sayreville died Nov. 1 in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, Edison. Prior to her retirement several years ago, she was employed for 15 years as a fine jewelry salesperson at J.C. Penney Co. Inc., East Brunswick. Her husband, Donald Hurley, died in 1997. Surviving are four daughters, Colleen Hurley of Jersey City, Linda Flynn of Edison, Donna Hurley of Westminster, Colo., and Dorothea Bongiovi of Red Bank; three sisters, Lillian Sullivan of Vero Beach, Fla., Helen Wyckoff of Brick and Olga Farozic of Berlin, Md.; and eight grandchildren. Services were held at Kurzawa Funeral Home, Sayreville. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, 65 James St., Edison, NJ 08818.
IRENE E. SERZAN, 85, of Brick, died Oct. 23 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She was a homemaker and a member of Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Toms River. She was very active in several clubs in the Lions Head community in Brick. She was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph Skarbek in 1965, and Stanley Serzan in 2000. Surviving are two sons, James and Joseph Skarbek, and a daughter, Bonnie Kaplowitz, all of Toms River; four grandchildren, Candice Slevin, Joseph Colucci, Barry and Bryan Skarbek; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Visitation Church, Brick. Interment was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Linden.
SAMUEL E. "SAM" ARIOSTO, 86, of Brick, died Oct. 24 in the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick division. He was a parts control analyst for Ford Motor Co., Mahwah, for 43 years, retiring in 1979. He was a WWII Army veteran and received a Purple Heart for service in the Battle of the Bulge. Born in New York City, he was raised on Staten Island and lived in Bergenfield for 29 years before moving to Brick 19 years ago. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mary Megna Ariosto; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Ariosto of Medford; a sister, Grace Sano of Brooklyn; and two grandchildren, David and Elizabeth. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of the Epiphany, Brick. Interment was in Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y.
FRANK J. EVERS, 82, of Brick, died Oct. 24 in Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick division. He was a freelance cartoonist for the New York Daily News for many years, retiring in 1985. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He also did freelance work for the Jersey Journal, Hudson City Dispatch, and the New York Post. He was a past president of the National Cartoonists Society. He was an Editorial Cartoonist of the Year in 1979. He worked for the Transport Workers Union, a freelance trade group. He coached Little League Baseball in Brick and in West New York. He was an avid sailor and also taught sailing. He was involved in USO tours. Born in New York City, he lived in west New York state before moving to Brick 45 years ago. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Lorraine Winkler Evers; two daughters and a son-in-law, Heather Evers of Caldwell, and Deborah and Henry Khost of Caldwell; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, Brick. Interment was in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown.
