Festival to continue with

The fall international film festival at the East Brunswick Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will continue on Nov. 19 with 1:30 and 8 p.m. screenings of the 2002 Indian musical Monsoon Wedding.

Winner of the Golden Lion Best Picture award at the 2001 Venice Film Festival, the film tells the story of a young woman who, growing tired of waiting for her lover to get a divorce, agrees to an arranged marriage. Comedy ensues as the new couple gets to know each other, surrounded by family and friends with secrets of their own. Musical numbers highlight the story.

The movie, which will be shown in English, Hindi and Punjabi with English subtitles as needed, is rated R. Running time is 114 minutes. Admission is free. Reservations are not required.

EBEF, chamber to hold

art auction fund-raiser

The East Brunswick Education Foundation (EBEF) and the East Brunswick Regional Chamber of Commerce Charitable Foundation will hold an art auction beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the East Brunswick High School cafeteria, Cranbury Road. A preview of the artwork is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will support grants for teachers and student scholarships within the school district. The auction will feature original oil paintings, lithographs, serigraphs and prints from well-known artists including Wyeth, Behrens, Borelli and Fairchild. Opening bids will range from $30-$115. A special collector’s corner may include works by Delacroix, Neiman, McKnight or Gorman.

County slates ‘Joseph’ for N.B. State Theatre

The eighth annual Middlesex County Plays-in-the-Park production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be presented at 8 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 28, and 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 at the State Theatre, Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick. The show, which is suitable for the whole family, tells the Biblical story of Jacob and his 12 sons through music by Andrew Lloyd Weber and lyrics by Tim Rice. A combination of rock, country/Western, calypso and vaudeville-style music is featured in the production. Tickets cost $5 and are available beginning Nov. 15 through the State Theatre box office either in person or by calling (732) 246-7469.
