LITTLE SILVER — The newest member of the Borough Council, David E. Gilmour, polled the most votes in last week’s council elections.
Gilmour won election to the unexpired term of former Councilman John S. Hunt, who has moved out of town, with 1,827 votes in an uncontested race.
Gilmour, a territory manager for Wilson Sporting Goods, was appointed to replace Hunt on the council and was sworn into office on Sept. 3.
After winning the balance of Hunt’s term, Gilmour said he was enjoying serving on the council and that the post was living up to his expectations.
"It has been very challenging," he said.
Two sitting council members who were seeking new three-year terms, Councilmen Donald S. Galante and Rick J. DeNoia Jr., were re-elected, also without opposition. Galante received 1,812 votes, while DeNoia got 1,788.
All three council members are Republicans.
The non-binding question on increasing the county’s open space tax passed with 1,505 votes in favor of it and 398 against.
Some 2,402 voters out of a total of 4,628 registered voters in the borough, or 51.9 percent, cast ballots.
