RALPH A. ALOI, 79, of Brick died Oct. 27 at home. He was a millwright at Colgate Palmolive, Jersey City, for 35 years, retiring 16 years ago. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and a past grand knight in North Bergen. He was most recently a member of the Jackson council. He was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Church, Brick. Born in Calabria, Italy, he lived in North Bergen before moving to Brick 15 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Maria Ruberto Aloi; three daughters, Angela of Succasunna, Mary Ann Pallarino of Jackson, and Lucy Byrnes of Bridgewater; five sisters, Mary Conca of Randolph, Dolly Miceli of Brick, Florence Callandriello of Port Reading, Adeline Mastria of Martinsville, and Margaret Conca of Rockaway; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
HENRY SAGUE, 76, of Brick died Oct. 27 in the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick division. He was a butcher at Ocean Bay Diner, Point Pleasant, for many years, retiring in the 1980s. He was previously employed at Howell Woodworking, Lakewood. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2342; a past member of the American Legion Post 348 and a member of the USS John C. Butler’s Veterans Association. Born in Long Branch, he lived in Brick for 45 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Agnes J., who died in 1998. Surviving are a daughter, Irene Rafferty of Brick; two sons, Frank of Brick, and Gary of Beachwood; two brothers, David of Monmouth Beach, and John of Florida; and three grandchildren. Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Services were held in the chapel at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. RAYMOND CHRISTOFFERSEN, 73, of Brick, died Nov. 4 at home. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Belmar before moving to Brick 16 years ago. He was head carpenter at Cahn’s Builders Inc., Bradley Beach, where he worked for 16 years. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, and was a communicant of Epiphany Roman Catholic Church, Brick. He was a troop leader for Boy Scout Troop 17 in Brick, and was an avid fisherman. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Connor Christoffersen; two sons, Erik S. and Kurt R., both at home; and two sisters, Inga Christoffersen and Lucille Louffler, both of Arizona. Colonial Funeral Home of Brick was in charge of arrangements.
BONNIE LEE IVANY LaMANNA, 44, of Waretown, formerly of Brick died Nov. 9 at home. She was an instructional aide for Barnegat Township Board of Education, working at the Cecil Collins School for the past several years. She was a member of the Barnegat Bay Assembly of God Church, Waretown. Born in Point Pleasant, she lived in Brick before moving to Waretown in 1990. Surviving are her husband of 23 years, Rick; three sons, John Ballman of Cherry Hill, Rick LaManna of Lacey Township, and Andrew LaManna, at home; a daughter, Heather Ballman of Manahawkin; three brothers, Dennis Ivany of Waretown, Whitfield Ivany III of Brick, and Robert Ivany of Point Pleasant; two sisters, Priscilla Siegel of Brick, and Yvonne Cardoso of Barnegat; her father and mother, Whitfield and Barbara Ivany Jr. of Brick; and four grandchildren. JOHN E. PHAIR, 72, of south Toms River died Nov. 7 in Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in New York City, he lived in Palisades Park, before moving to south Toms River 11 years ago. He was employed as a sheriff’s officer for 20 years with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department in Hackensack, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1875 of Toms River and an Exempt Fireman and a member of the Palisades Park Fire Department for more than 40 years. Surviving are a son, John T. of Brick; six daughters, Margaret A. Prideaux of Eden Prairie, Minn., Patricia M. Jamieson of Clinton, Maureen Phair of Bridgewater, Kathleen M. Maurer of Emerson, Barbara E. Tremonte of Wayne, and Sheila M. Nastasi of River Edge; a brother, William of Highland Mills, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Dominic’s Church, Brick. Interment was private. JOHN STEPHEN DiMAIO, 35, of Brick died Nov. 7 in Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was an independent carpet installer. Born in Point Pleasant, he lived in the Shore area all his life. Surviving are two brothers, Alan DiMaio of Lakewood, and Anthony DiMaio of Brick; three sisters, Sharon Coryell and Andrea DiMaio, both of Brick, and Denise DiMaio of Toms River; his former wife, Maria DiMaio of Toms River; and several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Toms River.
BENNIE LEE ELLIS, 90, of Burgess, Va., formerly of Brick, died Nov. 4. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John B. and Carole Ellis of Burgess; two sisters, Lenora Fulcher of Reedville, Va., and Ann Harcum of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
JUDITH ANN MARCINKIEWICZ SMITH, 41, of Brick, died Nov. 3 at Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick Hospital, Brick. She was a parishioner of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, Brick. Born in Clifton, she lived in Toms River before moving to Brick 14 years ago. Surviving are her husband of 14 years, Thomas Michael Sr.; a son, Thomas Michael Jr.; her parents, Frank and Margo Marcinkiewicz of Toms River; a brother, Frank James Marcinkiewicz of New Port Richey, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. MARGARET KOHRS SHANNON, 83, of Brick, died Nov. 3 at Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick Hospital, Brick. Mrs. Shannon was a homemaker. She was a communicant of Visitation Church, Brick. Born in New York City, she lived in Hoboken before moving to Brick in 1958. Mrs. Shannon was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, 29 years ago. Surviving are a son, Joseph J. Shannon of Brick; five daughters, Noreen Napolitano of Toms River, Madeline Gallo of Anaheim, Calif., Patricia Litts of Brevard, N.C., Margaret Venture of California, and Mary Hoffman of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Laurelton Memorial Funeral Home, Brick. A Mass was offered at Visitation Church, Brick. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lakewood.
NICOLA "NIKKI" DAWE, 51, of Brick, died Nov. 3 at home. She was born in South Africa, where she was raised until the age of 7. She then lived in South Orange and moved to Maplewood and Idaho before moving to Brick in 1999. Before her disability, she was a registered nurse. Surviving are her parents, Kenneth and Moyra of Brielle; her life partner since 1989, Jae Emery-Dawe of Brick; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Kerry and Maggie Dawe of Roselle Park, and Martin Dawe and his partner, Chris, of Atlanta; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Nina Dawe of Tyringham, Mass., and Colette and Robert Schoreder of Brick; two nieces and two nephews, Ken, Jessica and Britney Dawe, and Matthew Schoreder; and her partner’s family, Amberly and Hunter Eck, Thomas and Susan Emery, Cheryl and Danny Morrow, and Russell and Tammy Emery, all of Georgia, and Lewis and Leanne Emery of Maryland. A gathering of the celebration of life was held at O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick. Interment was private.
MILDRED BORNEMANN, 78, of Brick died Nov. 3 in the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick division. She was born in Jersey City and lived in Woodbridge before moving to Brick in 1987. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Bornemann, in 1966. Surviving are four sons, Edward H. Jr. of Williamsport, Pa., Richard of Woodbridge, Gerard of Brick and Brian of Union Beach; three daughters, Joanne Rinaldi of Lakewood, Janice Murphy of Laurence Harbor and Eileen Delatour of Hillsboro; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services were held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, Toms River. Entombment was in Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
