Films, talks, readings at library during December

The Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library, 1001 Route 35, Shrewsbury, will offer "Intelligent Design" presented by Dr. James Mitroka Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Four free films will be shown at the library during December, beginning with No Man’s Land (English, Bosnian and French) Dec. 5. Manhattan Melodrama with Clark Gable and William Powell will be presented Dec. 12, and Remember the Night with Barbara Stanwyck will be shown Dec. 19. Carole Lombard will star in Princess Comes Across Dec. 26. All films are at 7 p.m.

An artists’ reception will be held Dec. 7 from 2-4 p.m. for members of the Monmouth Camera Club. Members’ photos will be displayed at the library Dec. 5-30. A poetry reading, "Food For Thought," will be held Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a donation of canned food for the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

The Susanna Antonetta book Body Toxic: An Environmental Memoir will be discussed Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. and Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The Monmouth Arts Foundation will sponsor "Light Opera From the Victorian Era" performed by Amy Fredericks Dec. 12 at 10 a.m.

"Managing Your Retirement Income" will be presented by financial advisers from American Express Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. "How to Start and Manage Your Own Business" will be presented by SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) Dec. 16 at 6 p.m.

Group I of the Monmouth Fiction Writers Group will meet Dec. 10, and Group II will meet Dec. 17, both at 6:30 p.m.
