BRHS girls’ basketball team wins tournament

Temple’s great play dominates the Pemberton Holiday event

By:
On a Bordentown Regional High School girls’ varsity basketball team known for its depth talent and unselfish play, junior Randi Temple is so good she stands out, nonetheless.
This past Saturday, Temple poured in a game-high 18 points to pace the Scotties to a 63-34 triumph over host Pemberton in the championship game of the Pemberton Holiday Tournament.
Had there been a MVP trophy for the tournament, Temple would have surely won it. Even so, Temple seemed perfectly content at sharing a championship Trophy with her fellow teammates and she even commented, "We have a lot of talent."
   She’s right.
Senior Michele Gore, who scored a dozen points in the championship contest, has been an integral member of the Scotties for the past few years. And so has Lisa Gilardi (8 points). However, Tochi Shilow (4 points), Lauren Nucera (8 points), Rosie Fedak (4 points), Tishonda Higgins (6 points) and Taryn Lynch (2 points) all stepped up and played well versus Pemberton.
Temple, herself, is able to keep her edge because of all the extra shooting she does outside and with her younger sister Megan in the gymnasium. That edge helped her against Pemberton.
Yet the Scotties wouldn’t have even reached the championship game had they not come back from a 7-point first-half deficit (29-22) to defeat Nottingham, 69-56, the day before.
"We didn’t come out too good in the first half," noted Temple. "But I figured if we picked it up we could win."
In the second stance, Bordentown more than picked it up—it erupted with a spectacular 20-7 third quarter to gain control of the contest.
Temple and Lotoya Taylor took turns pumping in big buckets, with each finishing with 16 points apiece. Michele Gore added 11 points while Tochi Shilow chipped in with 7 points and Tishoma Higgins had 8 points. Also scoring for the Scotties versus Nottingham were Taryn Lynch (3 points), Christian DellaFave (2 points) and Lauren Nucera (1 point) and Lisa Gilardi (5 points).
No one was shocked when Bordentown won a Christmas Tournament this season. It was expected. The Scotties are a good team. And Randi Temple plays a major role in their success.
Bordentown (3-0) is scheduled to host NBC this Saturday. Then on Tuesday, Bordentown is scheduled at Burlington City.
