   Police said James Smith, 46, of Florence was charged with careless driving after his car struck a tree on Florence-Columbus Road at 11:25 p.m. on Dec. 28.
   Police said Mr. Smith was driving a 1992 Mercury Topaz north on Florence-Columbus Road when he veered off the road and struck a tree.
   The vehicle sustained front-end damage and was towed from the scene, and Mr. Smith was treated and released for minor injuries at Rancocas Hospital in Willingboro, police said.
   Police said Marlyn Evans, 24, of Roebling was charged with driving under influence of alcohol, careless driving, refusal to submit to chemical testing, failure to use headlights, and failure to stop at a stop sign at 2 a.m. on Dec. 28.
   Police said a 1992 Nissan driven by Ms. Evans was stopped on Fifth Avenue in Roebling after she drove through a stop sign with her headlights off.
   She was released on her own recognizance pending a court date, police said.
