Public Works supervisor reports
By John Tredrea
During Pennington Borough Council’s final meeting of 2002, held Dec. 18, council addressed several water-related issues.
Public works supervisor Jeff Wittkop reported that one of the borough’s wells, No. 5, was broken and that repairs are under way. This is the second time No. 5 has gone out of service recently, he said, adding that steps are being taken to find out why it occurred and to minimize the chances it will happen again.
Mr. Wittkop also reported that a slowly-leaking crack has been found in a water main under West Welling Avenue. The crack will be repaired, he said.
It was also noted during the brief Dec. 18 council meeting that the state has given Pennington until 2005 to reduce the amount of water being lost by the borough’s water system.
The loss is expressed as the difference between the amount of water pumped from borough wells and the amount recorded on the water meters of users of the water system.
Currently the loss is about 25 percent. The state wants it down to 15 percent by 2005. This means a leak-repair program is needed, borough officials say.
