Wednesday, Dec. 25, police were called to 92 Swan St. for an unresponsive male, possibly having a heart attack.
The resident, Joseph Paradowski, received a call from Joel Laux, 22, of Philadelphia earlier and invited him to share Christmas dinner. Mr. Paradowski said Mr. Laux went downstairs, presumably to use a bathroom.
After not returning for an extended period, Mr. Paradowski went to check on him, police said. He was found just outside the bathroom with a hypodermic syringe and two empty (1-inch by 1-inch square bags) nearby, police said.
Mr. Paradowski attempted to awaken him, but Mr. Laux was unresponsive, police said. The Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad arrived and transported Mr. Laux to Mercer Medical Center.
Charges are pending identification of the suspect.
A Dunellen man was arrested on an outstanding warrant Dec. 24 on Route 518 near Old York Road.
The front license plate was in the windshield and barely visible, police said.
The driver was identified as Steven Ackerman, 24. Police said there was an active traffic warrant out of Greenbrook Township Municipal Court for $88.
He was released after posting bail and receiving a summons for an unclear plate.
Dec. 24, police stopped a vehicle on Buttonwood Street that had an expired inspection sticker.
The driver, identified as Kristian Ostergaard, 23, of Frenchtown was found to have an outstanding traffic warrant from Jersey City Municipal Court for $150.
He was released after posting bail and receiving summonses for failure to make repairs and having a loud muffler.
Dec. 24, police charged two persons with smelling/inhaling toxic fumes.
Police stopped a car with a loud muffler in the area of Route 179 and York Street, police said. Police said there was an overpowering smell of starter fluid from inside the vehicle. Two aerosol cans of starter fluid were found on the lap of the passenger, police said.
Also on the lap of the driver was a white sock soaked with starter fluid, police said.
When police asked the driver, identified as Oliver Velasquez, 18, of Bridgeton if he was huffing the starter fluid, Mr. Velasquez ignored him and handed over his credentials, police said. His eyes were droopy and bloodshot, and his pupils were dilated, police said, adding he appeared dazed and intoxicated.
He and the passenger, Firmin Cabayero, 18, also of Bridgeton, were charged.
Mr. Velasquez also had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear at Bridgeton Municipal Court for $250. Bail was set at $2,500 for both.
They were taken to Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of bail.
Mr. Velasquez also received summonses for being an unlicensed driver, failure to wear a seatbelt, for a windshield violation and having a loud muffler.
Dec. 29 at 9:25 p.m., police received a report of criminal mischief to two vehicles in the area of 43 Clinton St.
Police said John Kurtz found a deep scratch on the trunk of his BMW and a similar scratch on the driver’s side rear door of his Mazda.
This had occurred sometime after 7 p.m. Dec. 27, police said.
Police received three separate reports of damage outside restaurants Dec. 23.
Clair Geyer from The New Hope Inn on West Mechanic Street called police at 9:30 a.m. to report damage to a planter outside the restaurant sometime overnight.
Police said the incident occurred at about 1 a.m. The planter is valued at $50.
Andrew Abruzzese, owner of Moonlite restaurant on West Mechanic Street, called police at 9:30 a.m. to report damage to potted trees outside his establishment sometime overnight.
Someone knocked over one of the trees, breaking the clay planter. It was valued at $250.
John Gerhart from Le Chateau Erotique on West Mechanic Street, called police at 11 a.m. to report a garden display was vandalized sometime overnight. The display was valued at $10.
Dec. 28, police investigated a two-vehicle traffic accident at 4 a.m. on South Main Street in the area of Waterloo Street.
Alfredo Saucedo, 30, of Philadelphia had stopped his car in the northbound lane of South Main Street when he was struck from behind by a car operated by Gina Naughton, 33, also of Philadelphia.
Cyrenaica Saucedo, 23, a passenger in Mr. Saucedo’s vehicle, received a head injury and was transported to Doylestown Hospital by the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad.
Ms. Naughton’s vehicle had to be towed.
Dec. 28, Leslie Darling of Lambertville called police at 11 a.m. to report her jacket had been stolen while she was at The Moonlite Bar the night before.
Taken with her jacket were her car keys, glasses and a New Jersey driver’s license.
