EAST WINDSOR An Abbington Drive couple awoke to an uninvited visitor New Year’s Day and didn’t let him go until the police arrived.
Police said Tuesday that Patrolman Jeff Dorrian responded to a Jan. 1 call by a woman from the B Building of Abbington Drive, who said her husband was grappling with an intruder in their living room.
According to police, the woman reported that she and her husband were awakened by "two large bangs" around 7 a.m. When the couple went to the living room to investigate, they discovered 28-year-old Carlos Ruales, a resident of the C Building, standing in their living room holding a piece of molding from the front door, police said. Further investigation revealed the door had been kicked open, police said.
Police said the woman reported that Mr. Ruales attempted to run away, but was tackled by her husband, who restrained Mr. Ruales until Patrolman Dorrian arrived. Police reported Mr. Ruales was intoxicated. The officer charged him with burglary, criminal mischief and trespassing. He was detained until sober and released later that day, police said.
No injuries were reported.
