Walter Henry Sierp, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 4, at his home in Monroe.
Born in Bayonne, he was raised and lived most of his life in Spotswood before settling in Monroe 10 years ago. He was self-employed for many years, operating Henry Sierp and Sons in Spotswood, retiring in 1966. Mr. Sierp was an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion Post 253 in Spotswood and a member of the Spotswood Polish-American Club.
He is survived by his nieces, Sophie Holbrook of Monroe, Joan Strasser of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Annette Martis of Tranton, as well as five great nieces and two grandnephews.
A funeral was held Thursday, Jan. 9, at Eckman Funeral Home in Spotswood, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Helmetta. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Monroe. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Walter’s memory to the American Heart Association, 2550 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, N.J. 08902.
