Arts group, library will offer art film series

The East Brunswick Arts Commission and the East Brunswick Library will co-sponsor an art film series beginning at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the library with a showing of Billy Elliot

The film, which tells the story of an 11-year-old boy who wants to become a ballet dancer despite the objections of his macho father and brother, is rated R for language. Running time is 110 minutes.

Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.

Future films in the series will include:

• Music of the Heart — starring Meryl Streep as a teacher who creates a music program in East Harlem, N.Y. (rated PG), Feb. 18;

• Lust for Life — starring Kirk Douglas in the biography of artist Vincent Van Gogh (rated PG-13), March 18;

• Hilary and Jackie — the story of two musically gifted sisters, one of whom has a fatal illness (rated R), April 8. For more information, call (732) 390-6797.

Bagel Brunch set for

Jan. 26 at S.R. temple

The Adult Education of Congregation Anshe Emeth, 88 Main St., South River, will sponsor a Bagel Brunch at 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 26.

Topic of discussion will be "Israel and the Jewish People: An American Perspective."

Rabbi Nathan Langer will lead the discussion.

Bagels and spreads will be served.

Admission is free of charge to members and nonmembers.

Methodist Women

will offer Soup Buffet

The United Methodist Women of Simpson United Methodist Church, Route 516 and Owens Road, Old Bridge, will sponsor a Soup Buffet from 5-7 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the church.

A variety of soups will be available. Bread, beverages and dessert also will be offered.

Tickets cost $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12.

Youngsters age 3 and under will be admitted free of charge.

Snow date is Jan. 24.
