Gussie Mae Jones, 71, died Friday, Jan. 10, at Robert Wood University Hospital in New Brunswick.
She was born in Madison, Ga., and lived in Jamesburg for the past 48 years. She was a retired nurse’s aide, having worked for the Applegarth Care Center in Hightstown for 10 years. She was also formerly employed by the Middlesex County Economic Opportunities Corporation with its Head Start Program in Jamesburg. She was a member of the Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church in Jamesburg. She was one of the "mothers" of the church, a member of the Missionary Board, a former adviser of the Bud of Faith Choir, and a member of the Nurse’s Unit, all at the church.
She is survived by seven daughters, Jennifer D. Ballard, Patricia P. Jones, Ann M., Melinda G., Della K. Finch; Rita R. Jones and Ida Bell Crawford, all of Jamesburg; two sons, Barry O. Jones, and his wife, Ernestine, of Jamesburg, and Freddie Fitch Jr. and his wife, Mary, of East Windsor; 10 grandchildren, Jamil P., Vincent and Amanda Jones, Anthomiese, Atisha, Atyia, Atoyia, and Evan Fitch, Freddie Fitch III and Evan Deer White-Fitch; a close friend, Freddie Fitch Sr., of Trenton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church in Jamesburg. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery, also in Jamesburg. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Anderson Funeral Service in New Brunswick.
