Plumsted awards recycling contract

TOWN TALK by Ron Dancer

The Township Committee has awarded a contract for container service at our recycling center to the lowest bidder, Central Jersey Waste and Recycling Inc. of Hamilton. The low bid of Central Jersey was $181.20 to provide and empty each 30-yard recycling container for 2003. The township has the option to renew the contract for four additional one-year periods at the bid price with no increase.
Residents are reminded of the state law not to discard recyclables in their household trash. If your trash collector does not pick up recyclables, residents are to utilize the containers at the recycling center. The center is open to the public on Wednesdays (1 to 5 p.m.) and on Saturdays (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Serving the Community: Anyone interested in part-time employment as a school crossing guard for the safety of children crossing the street, please contact the township. Residents who may have an interest in serving on the Environmental Commission, please contact the chairman, Ralph Bitter, at 758-9544.
Preservation Funding: Assemblyman Joe Malone and I have sponsored Assembly Bill 3139 to appropriate $18,725,000 from the Garden State Preservation Trust Fund for farmland preservation purposes. Included in funding are farms located in Plumsted, North Hanover and Washington Township.
Meetings and Suggestions: The next regularly scheduled meeting and citizen comment period with Township Committee members Ken Francis, Ada Roberts, Bonnie Quesnel and Deputy Mayor Joe Przywara will be on Jan 27. Residents can preview our business agenda, to the extent known, 48 hours prior to the meeting on our Web site, www.plumsted.org.
Meet personally with the Mayor at the library on the first Wednesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. The next meeting will be on Feb. 5.
Regarding state legislative issues, residents may also contact the staff of Sen. Bob Singer, Assemblyman Joe Malone and myself at the 30th Legislative District office by calling (732) 901-0702.
