Elizabeth Hardcastle
MANSFIELD Elizabeth Hardcastle 94, died Jan. 20 at Marcella Center in Burlington County.
Born in Jersey City, she lived there for 80 years.
She lived in Port Reading for four years before moving to Columbus in 1995.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hardcastle was a previous member of St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church in the Greenville section of Jersey City and the church’s Altar Rosary Society.
She also was a previous member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Port Reading and a member of the Port Reading Seniors.
She was predeceased by her husband Raymond Hardcastle in 1989 and by her brothers George and Raymond Wolleon.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and John Burns of Columbus; three grandchildren, Susan Atallah, Eileen D’Angelo and Allen Burns; and her great-grandchildren, Justin Caitlyn and Timothy.
Funeral services will be held Jan. 23 at 9 a.m. from the Leon J. Gerity Funeral Home, 411 Amboy Avenue, Woodbridge followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Port Reading.
Interment will be at St. Gertrudes Cemetery, Colonia.
Nelson O. Ridgway
FLORENCE Nelson O. Ridgway, 78, of Florence died Jan. 17 at Virtua-Hospital in Mt. Holly.
Born in Florence, Mr. Ridgway lived in Florence all of his life.
He retired 10 years ago as a movie projectionist for the AMC Theater Co. and worked at the Prince Theater in Princeton for 30 years.
Mr. Ridgway was a World War II Army veteran, a Purple Heart recipient, and a member of St. Clare’s Church in Florence.
He also enjoyed fishing and stamp collection.
Husband of the late Blanche Sprague Ridgway and father of the late Bruce Ridgway, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Susanne and Martin Bielamowicz of Lawrenceville and Michele Ridgway of Florence; two sons, Nelson Ridgway of Philadelphia and Michael Ridgway of Florence; a brother, Earl Ridgway of Florence; five grandchildren, Melissa and Heather Ridgway, Martin and Sara Bielamowicz and Rebecca Parks; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral was held from the Dennison Funeral Home, Florence.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Clare’s Church, Florence.
Officiating was Rev. Felix F. Venza, pastor.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Florence.
Contributions in his memory may be sent to St. Clare’s Church Improvement Fund.
Virginia M.
Alloway Sabo
BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP Virginia M. Alloway Sabo, 83, formerly of Hamilton Township and South Trenton for many years, died Jan. 12 at St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Hamilton Township, she resided in South Trenton for many years before moving to Bordentown Township two years ago.
She attended Hamilton High School and during World War II, had been employed at Eastern Aircraft in Ewing Township building fighter planes.
She was an avid bingo player.
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Michael Sabo, who died in 1989 and a son, Michael W. Sabo.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William M. Sabo and Gail and Julius M. Sabo and Marsha, all of Bordentown Township; 10 grandchildren: Michael, William and Jay Ridell, Clark, David, Jamie and Chad Sabo and Danielle DeSimone, Nicole Hernandez and Drew Pangaldi; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Strong of Trenton and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held privately with the Rev. Wesley Murray Sr. officiating.
Interment was in Princeton Memorial Park, under the direction of the Joseph P. Horan Funeral Home of Trenton.
The family prefers donations be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
Robert G. Sano
MANSFIELD Robert G. Sano, 92, of the Homestead section of Columbus died Jan. 15 at Cooper Trauma Center.
Born in Barnesboro, Pa. he resided in North Plainfield prior to moving to Columbus in 1996.
He was a retired leather craftsman who worked for Louis Lefkowitz & Bros. in New Brunswick.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Burlington and the Homestead Line Dancing Club.
He loved his family, line dancing, playing pool and the stock market.
He was the brother of the late Benedict Sano, Catherine Renda, Angela Renda and Minnie Spezio.
He is survived by his wife, Jean C. Sano of Columbus; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce J. and Robert Dore of Hopewell Township and Jean Fritz of Piscataway; three Grandchildren, Cynthia Jean Olah and her husband, Tim; Erick S. Thackston and Kathleen R. Dore; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Burlington, with Msgr. James Dubell officiating.
Entombment followed in St. Paul’s Mausoleum, Burlington.
