Esther Claver

   Esther Margaret "Connie" Conover Claver, 79, died Monday, Jan. 6, near Nashville, Tenn., at the Mariner Place nursing home.
   Born in Lambertville, she was the daughter of the late Wilburt and Mabel Conover.
   Ms. Claver grew up in Lambertville and moved to California in 1943. Her first husband, John Obiols, died in 1977. They were married 29 years.
   She was active with the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels.
   Surviving are her husband, Dr. Randall Claver; her nephews, Richard P. Conover, and his wife, Debbie, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Terry E. Conover of Mobile, Ala.; a niece, Kimberly, and her husband, Jason; and a sister-in-law, Ethel E. Conover of Charlottesville, Va.
   A memorial service was held Monday at White and Day Colonial Mortuary, Torrance, Calif.

John Foy Sr.

   LAMBERTVILLE — John "Jack" Foy Sr., 68, died Friday, Jan. 17, at Doylestown (Pa.) Hospital.
   Born in Lambertville, Mr. Foy lived in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. He returned to Lambertville in 1958.
   He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lambertville, the American Legion Post 120, Lambertville, and former member of the Lambertville Moose.
   He served on the Lambertville Recreation Committee and was a commissioner for the Lambertville men’s fast pitch softball league lodge.
   Mr. Foy had worked for Zembelli Fireworks in York, Pa., the Garden State Logging Co. and as a laborer during the construction of the Lambertville-New Hope toll bridge.
   He was a member of Local #172 and had worked at Princeton University’s Forrestal Complex. He retired from the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission as an electrician in 1998 with 16 years of employment.
   Mr. Foy was a Marine and served during the Korean Conflicts. He was the son of the late John and Marion Durling Foy.
   He is survived by his first wife, Blanche Koch of Ocala, Fla.; his wife, Ruth Mull Foy; two sons and daughters-in-law, John H. and Wanda Foy Jr. of New Hope, and Kevin and Jackie Foy of Lambertville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wendy and Jim Malone of Perkasie, Pa., and Terry Foy of Trenton; a sister, Eleanor Corrigan of New Hope; a stepdaughter, Sandy Benitez of Flemington; three stepsons, Robert Woodruff, Richard Woodruff and Michael Woodruff and his wife, Carol, all of Lambertville; and eight grandchildren.
   Funeral services were held Tuesday at Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville. Burial followed in Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Delaware Township.

John Slack

   John W. "Jack" Slack, 85, died at home last November.
   Born in Lambertville, he was a resident of Arizona for the past 48 years.
   He was an Army veteran, having served in the Pacific during World War II.
   He was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Lambertville.
   He worked for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. before moving to Arizona. He then worked for Hughes Aircraft in Tucson and retired from the Sulpher Springs Valley Electric Coop in Willcox, Ariz.
   He was the son of the late Frank and Margaret Mangan Slack and brother of the late James, and Frank Slack, Mary Mitchell and Margaret Skillman.
   Surviving are his wife, Gladys Stintsman Slack; a son, Patrick Slack of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
   Interment was private.
