The Jersey Shore Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) will hold its 28th annual Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner on Jan. 24 at the Tropicana Casino and Resort, Atlantic City. Honored at the event will be Ocean County civic leader Dan D’Onofrio and David P. Tilton, president & CEO of Atlantic City Medical Center. The reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the recognition program/dinner will commence at 7:30 p.m.
"With the Distinguished Citizens Award, the Jersey Shore Boy Scout Council recognizes prominent individuals for their leadership role in the community and the business sphere," said Nicholas V. Coppola, president of the Jersey Shore, BSA, who is also chief executive officer of D.W. Smith Associates, LLC, Lakewood."
D’Onofrio and Tilton are being honored as successful businessmen and outstanding humanitarians who have made a positive difference in the local communities, according to Coppola. D’Onofrio’s and Tilton’s achievements embody the spirit of the Boy Scout organization and have earned them the honor of the Distinguished Citizens Award, Coppola continued.
D’Onofrio, of Toms River, is the sole president and CEO of several corporations. Born and raised in New York City, he relocated to Ocean County in 1946, following his discharge from the Marine Corps.
David Tilton is president and CEO of Atlantic City Medical Center (ACMC). He was also recently appointed executive vice president and chief operating Officer of Egg Harbor Township-based AtlantiCare. AtlantiCare is comprised of six health-system business units with more than 3,300 employees.
About 500 guests are expected to attend the Distinguished Citizens Award Dinner, which is also the biggest annual fund-raiser for the Jersey Shore Council, BSA.
Co-chairs of this year’s Dinner Committee are David Wintrode, president of Causeway Ford/LTD Properties, and Bernard DeLury, Esq., vice president/deputy general counsel, Park Place Entertainment. According to Doris Brennan, the council’s director of finance services, the goal is to raise $166,000 at the upcoming event. The funds will be used by the organization to continue providing quality programs to the youth in the community.
Headquartered in Toms River, the Jersey Shore Council, BSA, is the largest nonprofit youth-serving agency in the area. It serves 19,000 young people and 4,000 adult volunteers in Ocean, Atlantic and southeastern Burlington counties as well as Ocean City.
