EAST WINDSOR A bus ride gone sour led police to charge a Bronx man with attacking the driver last Saturday.
According to police, officers responded to an assault call on Abbington Drive on Saturday. There, police said, the driver of a Suburban Transit bus reported that a passenger had punched him in the face after a dispute over the fare, just minutes before. Police said the fight started when the passenger demanded to be taken back to a missed bus stop and the driver refused.
According to police, the driver, a Bordentown resident, provided officers with a description of the assailant, which led them to 53-year-old Harvey Cohen, who was standing in front of the Mobil gas station on Route 33, near Twin Rivers. Police said the driver positively identified Mr. Cohen as the attacker. Mr. Cohen, police said, admitted hitting the driver, saying he did so because he was in a bad mood.
Witnesses also identified Mr. Cohen as the assailant, police said.
Police reported the driver suffered swelling and some redness of the face, but was not taken for medical care. Mr. Cohen was charged with aggravated assault and released after posting $5,000 bail.
