MONROE Monroe is closing in on another senior community.
The Vineyards, a proposed planned retirement community to be located in the western part of the township, needs final approval from the township Planning Board and suitable weather for construction.
The community of 189 age-restricted, single-family detached houses received preliminary approval from the Planning Board in December.
Matchaponix Associates of Englishtown is the development company that filed the application.
Township Engineer Ernie Feist said Thursday that the Matchaponix application was "relatively direct and clean" and didn’t require major changes.
"I believe the Vineyards will be ready for final approval in a couple of months," he said.
The Vineyards is proposed to be constructed on 59 acres bounded by Cranbury Station Road and Cranbury Brook.
If approved, the Vineyards will join eight other planned retirement communities that have been built, are under construction or have final approval for construction.
There are five completed adult communities in Monroe, Rossmoor, Clearbrook, Concordia, Greenbriar at Whittingham and The Ponds.
The Encore, a 397-unit community on Prospect Plains Road is under construction as is Toll Brothers’ Regency, 840 units on Buckelew Avenue.
The Renaissance, 348 units on Route 33, has been approved by the Planning Board and is awaiting the start of construction.
