Focus on gettingjob done

To the editor

Two years ago, my life changed forever. My son was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and we were forced to face many harsh decisions. It was a very difficult two years. When you have to realize the possibilities that come from a diagnosis like that, you are deeply hurt. A hurt any parent who loves their child would feel.
Interestingly enough, I have found that it also changes you as a person. At least so in my case. You really learn what a priority is. I thought I knew, and to some extent I did, but I had a lot to learn also.
That is what this editorial is about. Priorities. I read the Hillsborough Beacon each week and I have seen a disturbing trend in the politics of this town for some time now. It has now reached a point where I am going to add my two cents for a few minutes here and address the political parties in town.
Before the November elections, we "little" people were inundated with the he said/she said rhetoric, and to some extent, that is to be expected. However, now since the election, we are bombarded with the "tit for tat" rhetoric, and I find myself asking, if all that energy is spend on pay backs and gotcha’s … what energy is left for the job at hand? The job the elected party has the responsibility to carry out to the best of their ability.
I mean, if I read the articles in the Beacon correctly this week, not only are they moving back in time by trying to do away with flextime scheduling, but they can’t even elect a committee person without name calling. The priority should be running the township to the personal best of his or her ability, every since person should be giving 100 percent to that end. Without hypocrisy, and without bias.
Come on, when I go to vote , (and I always vote) I want the best person for the job, I’m tired of voting for the person I feel will do the least amount of damage during their time in office.
I don’t care what party they are from, I care about what they are going to do for the community I live in, and raise my children in. I care about their morals, I care about what they stand for and I care about their word.
Learn what I had to learn by facing my biggest fear, the most important thing, is what you are doing right now.
Are you doing the best thing? Are you setting the best example? Are you proud of your choices? Or do you have a problem sleeping at night?
If you have been elected or appointed to a position, keep in mind that you are only there because of a vote. Amazingly enough it is in township politics where we can have our voice heard the loudest. We are giving you the responsibility and the means to do the job, please don’t waste time not doing it.
If a group of adults can’t work together in harmony for a mutually desired goal, what example is that setting for our kids? What skills are we showing them and teaching them?
   Just something to think about.
