Book sale coming to Cranbury School

Book sale is also a school fundraiser

The students of Cranbury School will have a chance to buy books and help raise money for their school next week when the PTO hosts its annual Scholastic Book Sale.
The sale, sponsored by Scholastic, a global children’s publishing and media company, offers books for school-age students. Scholastic provides the school with about 500 books for the sale every year and donates about $300 worth of books for teachers. The PTO gets 30 percent of the gross sales and the donated books are evenly distributed to the teachers who request them.
Jane Holland, president of the PTO, said the money is part of the spring fund-raiser that’s used for new school programs or equipment.
Last year, the earnings from the book sale totaled $2,000, which helped buy a new playground near the kindergarten classrooms.
Suzanne Reiss, chairwoman of the book sale, and co-Chair Chris Orcutt are in charge of setting up the books for sale, counting the earnings and communicating with Scholastic.
Ms. Reiss, who has helped organize the sale for the past four years, said the it will feature both fiction and nonfiction books. Ms. Holland said all students from kindergarten through eighth grade can find a variety of titles, including the famous "Harry Potter" books.
Bookmarks, posters, pencils and other stationery are also on the list of items on sale.
Ms. Holland said the students’ parents are invited, as well. There are evening hours from 6:30 to 8 p.m. so they can return with their child to take another look at the selection and buy what the student may have missed on the shelf.
