Hopewell Valley Regional Board of Education unanimously voted Monday night to appoint Kevin Doran of Fitzcharles Drive to fill the vacancy created by the recent resignation of Arthur "Ari" Gabinet.
Mr. Doran and his wife have two children who attend Valley schools.
A senior executive with a large multi-national Fortune 500 company,Mr. Doran is the current chairman of the Business Advisory Board for the School of Business, Rider University.
Mr. Doran stated in his letter of application to the board: "I am a strong advocate for quality education and believe that strong planning and a solid strategy, when openly communicated, engages the community, faculty and administration toward a common goal."
Mr. Doran’s term runs until the April 22 school board reorganization meeting, which follows the April 15 annual school election.
With the April 22 board meeting, Pennington loses one of its current two seats on the nine-member regional board. Mr. Gabinet held one (now held by Mr. Doran) and David Goldschmidt holds the other, a three-year term.
But, on April 15, Pennington voters will pick just one person for a three-year term.
